and Fiction can foretell the future.

As some may know, I have had several novels published as e-books, but my favourite story, the theme of which is based upon British politics, is the only one which actually made it to a print version. I saw the hero of my story as a ‘right-wing bruiser’, with a limited vocabulary and equally limited grasp of modern politics. The other ‘hero’ was a machine: if an electronic tape recorder, invented in Nazi Germany to immortalise the thoughts and hopes of Adolf Hitler can be really termed ‘heroic’. That machine was capable of much more than the inventor envisaged; with it’s remarkable capacity for recording not only the voice of that evil man, but also seemed to carry his deepest thoughts as it captured them on that special tape.

The novel has many interwoven plot-lines and outcomes, but one in particular came to my mind yesterday when reading about the terror bombing in New York, and the strange, almost muted reaction of the Mayor. In my story, there has been a series of deadly bombing attacks; firstly a suicide bomb attack on an Asian Harmony Centre in Salford, killing the Home Secretary and 108 other victims. The next set of suicide attacks were all set in passenger coaches which had departed from Leeds, and were all timed to happen simultaneously. The carnage, in my story-line, was over five-hundred dead, with many injured. The novel’s hero, Charlie Watson, now an MP and leader of his own small Party, has discovered that the Government knows who funded and organised the deadly attacks, but is staying mute, and hoping that the furore will die away. He talks with an elderly Peer who has encouraged his path in Parliament from the beginning:-

The Peer’s motorised wheelchair whispered slowly across the flagstones as the pair passed across the frontage of the magnificent old building, “I was in two minds whether to call you before your staff phoned up and said you were coming down to see me; two minds because I really don’t know how the country would react to the news that our own Government was considering suppressing news of the inspiration of the murderous attacks on our Country. If you are aware, as you obviously now are, what will stop you from declaring a ‘Revival’ crusade against the countries which supported the fools who planned and carried out the bombings? The actual numbers of planners in both Afghanistan and Pakistan probably number less than one hundred, far fewer than that in Saudi Arabia. What will the voters who simply give you trust, think if you whip them into a frenzy against people who differ from them only by the colour of their skin or the nature of their religion?”

Charlie’s face was akin to graven stone as he grappled with the boulder which the old Earlhad thrown at him. ‘The Prime Minister and close advisers possibly knew of the authors of the plot, and were even considering either doing nothing, or even worse saying nothing, because of where a quarter of Western oil came from’; his colleagues in Government were conspiring to keep news of the killings from a Nation who had a right to know!’  He sank down onto a bench at the side of the terrace, staring at the trees in the distance, whilst his elderly host parked his wheelchair at right-angles to the bench. “How could they even consider this, this betrayal, Harven?

I stated that this particular extract from my book was brought to mind with the extraordinary reaction from the ultra-liberal New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. I just wonder if it had crossed de Blasio’s mind to down-play this attack, and term it as ‘Neighbourhood Violence’?

We have to be very careful about ‘demonising’ one section of the Nation!

So you are an American Army Major, sworn on oath to defend the Constitution of your nation. You are also a Muslim. You confer with terrorist sympathisers, you visit terror web-sites: you finally decide that your brand of Muslim Islam should continue making war on America, so you load up with a specially-selected Belgian-made FN 5-7 automatic pistol; you also buy, over a two-three week period, fourteen more extended-hold magazines, and packed them with 420 rounds of SS192 body-armour-piercing ammunition. Also purchased were two laser sights; one red, suitable for indoor shooting, and one green, specifically for outdoor use!

It was over at Fort Hood in 10 minutes. Hasan strode into the soldier readiness center after lunch Nov. 5 with the Five-seven tucked under his combat uniform and 16 magazines in his utility pockets. Due to Army rules, he had every reason to believe no one else would be armed.

At a 45-seat waiting area, Hasan took one of the few empty seats and bowed his head. Suddenly, he stood, screamed “Allahu Akbar!” and began spraying bullets. The pop-pop-pop-pop sounded to some soldiers like firecrackers and to others like an M-16 firing on full auto. Some said his laser sights flashed through the gun smoke like a surreal light show.

In the chaos, some soldiers realized that they’d been hit only when they saw their own blood. Others said the rounds slammed like sledgehammers or baseball bats. Bullets tumbled through flesh, shattered bone and ruptured organs. More ripped through backs, arms and necks as the wounded crawled for cover.

Hasan changed magazines too fast for anyone to overtake him. He killed two men who tried. Survivors recalled that Hasan was silent and blank-faced. One said it was as if he were walking around a mall.

Hasan took his hunt outside, and a civilian cop soon confronted him. He shot her twice, shattering her knee and hip. Her gun jammed. She thought he would finish her off. He turned away. A second police officer wounded and paralyzed Hasan.

Inside the building, investigators determined that Hasan got off 146 shots, hitting people about 60 percent of the time. Outside, he shot 68 times and hit two people. In all, about 40 percent of his bullets maimed or killed. By contrast, trained police shooting in street confrontations hit bad guys 5 to 20 percent of the time.

The President, along with the lick-spittle Pentagon, called the massacre ‘Workplace Violence’. Obama never once called the killings ‘terrorism’, never once condemned his pet religion, never once called it like it was; until the days after the San Bernadino shootings, when he perhaps realised that the truth had to come out from the White House eventually, and accepted that Fort Hood’s Major Nidal Malik Hasan was a terrorist, his actions were totally linked with terror, and the ‘Workplace violence’ scenario hadn’t really worked.

In the latest attack upon America, with pipe-bombs menacing a Marine corps charity run, and twin pressure-cooker bombs menacing a high-volume shopping and residential area, which anyone with at least double IQ figures would have instantly recognised as a ‘terror attack’; slow-speaking and possibly slow-witted Mayor de Blasio stated it was “intentional,” but he added “there is no evidence at this point that there is a terror connection.” He also said that “there was no credible specific threat to New York.” So three bombs are set, two explode; and yet there is ‘no credible threat to New York’.

I presume if he had been in charge on September 11, 2001 when those two jets slammed into the World Trade Center skyscrapers, it would have been filed as ‘pilot and navigator error’!
